Aquarium Care for Guppy

Besides Goldfish, guppy is one of the most popular freshwater fish for home aquarium. With its capability to adapt to minor fluctuations in water quality, this type of fish is quite easy to care.

The beauty of guppies is mainly because of their unique tails. Guppies mature quickly and usually only grow to be about one and a half to two inches long, where their tails can grow about one third of the size of their bodies.

While their tails make them fun to watch, be careful when you intend to add another type of fish to the aquarium. Their fancy tails will make them an easy target.

Keep in mind that guppies should be fed very small amounts as often as three times a day. Guppies will eat just about anything, even, their own babies. Their main diet should consist of frozen or flake foods.

The next important thing to remember is to maintain appropriate water condition. Make sure the temperature is between 72 and 82 degress with P.H. level between seven and eight point two.

Also, do not forget to change the water regularly. Depending on the water condition, every one or two weeks should be enough. To avoid disrupting the fish, change approximately one third of the tank at a time.

Growing some aquatic plants, besides will create the beauty scenery of the tank, will also be useful as a place for guppies to seek refuge.

It is also a great idea to add about one to two inches of substrate in the bottom of the tank. Colored rock or dead crushed coral can make a nice addition to the aquarium, and may help in creating their natural environment.
